Border Collie Organizations

The United States Border Collie Club, Inc. (USBCC)
Lots of information on Border Collies!

American Border Collie Association
The registry used by most working sheepdog breeders in the US. They have a joint registration agreement with the ISDS (International Sheepdog Society), generally recognized as the “mother” studbook for working Border Collies. Be sure to read the ABCA’s position on ABCA dogs receiving a conformation championship; visit ABCA and click on News, then Registration Policy Clarified.

United States Border Collie Handlers’ Association (USBCHA)
These are some of the top handlers and triallers in the United States! Find a trial near you, see the current trial points standings, check out pictures of previous National Sheepdog and National Cattledog Champions, and more!

Border Collie Society of America
The AKC “parent” club for the Border Collie. Another site with lots of very good information about Border Collies.

Stockdog Resources, Communities, & Culture

Little Hats.net "Sheepdogging for Newbies"
An awesome site for anyone interested in getting involved with or just curious about herding with their Border Collie or other stockdog breed. Beginner FAQs, help finding an instructor, articles, and more.

Kensmuir Working Stockdog Forum
A gathering place for those seriously interested in learning more about the Border Collie as a working dog. Newcomers are welcome, but there are no forums and no tolerance for "pet" related topics.

A Glossary of Herding Terms and Commands
Unfamiliar with some of the herding terms used on my site? Some terms vary a little from region to region or within breeds, but this is a pretty comprehensive list of terms used in stockdog work.

"Rosettes to Ruin"
An awesome article by "Terrierman" which describes and illustrates beyond a doubt why breeding to a conformation standard (the "show ring" standard) is bad for dogs, especially working breeds. Terrierman states: "The standard for a working terrier is NOT in the ring, but in the field and it is only in the field that a dog can be judged worthy of being bred." As with the rest of the article, the same goes for the Border Collie. It is only by testing the Border Collie's working ability in the field or in the stockyard that a dog can be judged worthy of being bred. The working ability of a Border Collie can not be judged by watching it trot around a show ring or looking at its angles while "stacked."

BC Boards
The BC Boards provide forums to discuss sheepdog training and trialing, trial results, trial and clinic announcements, as well as Border Collie politics and working stockdog culture. There are also forums for general Border Collie discussion, health and genetics, obedience and agility, Border Collie rescue, and more. Post questions and share information about every aspect of Border Collies.

Border Collie and Sheep Breeders

Sheepy Hollow Farm
Walt Jagger has hosted the Pennsylvania State Championship Stock Dog Trial at his Sheepy Hollow Farm in Hop Bottom, PA, since 1982. He is the gentleman from whom I bought my first two Border Collies, Kaylie and Perky. He owned their beautiful sire, Celt. Walt raises sheep and an occasional litter of Border Collies.

Culleymont Farm
Cheryl and Richard Williams own Culleymont in Hop Bottom, PA, where they raise sheep, and breed and train Border Collies for livestock work.  They co-host the PA State Championship Sheepdog Trial together with Cheryl’s father Walt. Dare’s sire Andy lives at Culleymont and is owned by Cheryl.

Two River Run
With the assistance of XP Snap and XP Roy, and flock guardian llama Blue, Michelle Brothers raises quality registered Katahdin hair sheep at the lovely Two River Run in Monmouth County, NJ.

Miscellaneous

Michael McAdoo Photography
Michael McAdoo kindly provided several of the gorgeous photos on my site!

Orthopedic Foundation for Animals
A leader in research and data records of orthopedic and other genetic diseases of animals, an idea of family health history can be obtained through their records. It must be kept in mind that family relationships on the OFA site may be incomplete for Border Collies, as the database links dogs based on registration numbers. Therefore, some family members may not be displayed or linked together if, for example, one dog’s tests were submitted with its ABCA registration number but its sibling’s were submitted with its AKC registration number.

SheepGame
Test your "stock sense" and become a virtual Border Collie with this fun computer herding game. (Office-friendly "SpreadSheep" game also available!)

Bradley W. Schenck
This is the site where I found the lovely border design used on kelliwic.com.

Niagara County Fire Service and Fire Investigation Unit K-9 page
Please visit Cody's page! Cody is a Border Collie trained in Cadaver Recovery, Tracking, and Article Search (locating items with human scent).

Border Collie Behaviors: A Temperament Theory
This interesting site analyzes different temperament characteristics commonly found in Border Collies and other breeds, and provides ideas on how to customize your training program to match your dog's own temperament traits.
